PUBLIC MEETING. Auckland, 30th March, 1842. SIR— We the undersigned Merchants and Landholders of Auckland and its vicinity, have to request that you will call a PUBLIC MEETING, to be held on SATURDAY, the 2nd proximo, at 1 o’clock, for the purpose of adopting a Memorial to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, regarding the present prospects of THIS COLONY, and to express our opinions of the answer received from His Excellency the Governor, to the Petition forwarded to him last week ; and on other measures lately adopted by this Government, We have the honor to be, Sir, Your most obedient Servants, John I. Nathan, J. C. Gummer, Thomas Paton, W. R. Lester, Peter Williams, William Mason, George Graham, William Brown, R. M‘Kenzie, Thomas Spicer, John Alexander Smith, E. M'Lennan, John M‘Leod, William Lewi Peter Abercrombie, E. Chalmer, David White, Robert Campbell. To JAMES COATES, Esquire, High Sheriff, &c. &c. &c., New Zealand. Montego Ydla, Auckland,March 30,1842. In compliance with the foregoing Requisition, I do hereby call a PUBLIC MEETING, to be held at WATSON’S Exchange Coffee House, on SATURDAY, the 2nd of APRIL, at One o’clock, p. m. J.
