What is the relative state of the Sußr veys ?—ln an article in the Wellington Spectator of the 25th ultimo, are these words, and the writer answers his own. question thus—•' At Auckland one thousand five hundred acres of country lands were to be offered on the Ist of Septembe; this will have been the first sale of country land. Exceeding 30,000 have been appropriated around Port Nicholson, and a few months, we think, will find at least as much more given out. At Wanganui, 15,000 acres are known to be surveyed. And at Taranaki, we have reason to believe, 50,000 will be ready for settlement in a very short time. Our surveys have not been so rapid as we could desire, but to make any comparison with the north, would be a farce. Watson's Exchange Coffee Rooms. We were highly gratified to-day (Tuesday), at the " Address-Meeting,'' on witnessing the completion of Mr. Watson, our enterprisiug townsman's long room, This is the first time it has thrown open to the public, It is very and elegantly papered; and we should say, from what we have seen in other colonies, is exactly suited for the object the proprietor of the Exchange Hotel and Coffee Rooms intends ft, namely—a room where mercantile men, commanders of vessels, and transitory visitors to our flourishing metropolis; can make appointments, to transact business, without the unpleasant interruption of persons half or wholly inebriated ; for such persons will, we understand, be wholly excluded. We hope to see this room, what " Lloyd's Captains' Room" is, (or rather was,) at the old Royal Exchange, London! The Rev, Mr. Churton, has announced, that on Sunday next and on every succeeding Sunday, untill further notice, there will be Divine Service at six in the evening, instead of the afternoon service at three o' clock.
