CI? IT IC ASSAILED JUDGE ANSWERS MINISTER SYDNEY. Dec. 26 The Minister of Immigration and Information, Mr A. A. Calwell, has been attacked for criticising the appointment of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, Dr Norman Gilroy, as a cardinal. Mr Justice Brennan, of the Queensland Supreme Court, said: "It ill becoms a Cabinet Minister to speak in derogatory terms of the choice of Dr Gilroy as a cardinal. Thank God the Catholic Church is one and undivided and resents and ignores outside interference."

The director and acting-secretary of th Australian Natives' Association, Mr J. Roberts, said: "We object to Air Calwell's suggestion, because Dr Gilroy is a distinguished An/.ac and an Australian, and the Australian Natives' Association stands for Australian appointments where Australians are fitted tor such positions." Air Roberts added that if Mr Calwell's Government objected to the Apostolic Delegate. Archbishop Panico. the proper diplomatic procedure would be to have him recalled through the correct channels and not by violent outbursts in the press.
