AUCKLAND RACING CLUB STAKES FOR COMING EVENTS As a result of the restoration of Taring permits which were curtailed during the war the Auckland Racing Club's Summer Meeting will extend over four ('ays as formerly. The last occasion on which the meeting embraced four days was in 1941-42. .Two important races which will be renewed are the Summer Cup, of £ISOO, l'/ 4 miles, and the King's Plate, of £1250, weight-for-age, one mile. These events will be run on the second day. Stakes for the mid-spring meeting on November 24 and December 1 have been fixed at £10.950. The principal events on the first dav will be the Alison Cup, of £IOOO, one mile and three furlongs, and the Cheltenham Handicap of £750. six furlongs, and on the second nay the St. Andrew's Handicap, of £BOO. 1/, miles, and the Ngataringa Handicap, of £750, six furlongs. The sum of £ 11,050 will he given in stakes at the mid-summer meeting on January 26 and 29. On (lie first day the principal races will he the Takapuna Cup, of £ISOO and a gold cup valued at £l5O presented by the estate of the late F, Earl, l s /a miles, and the Zealand in Handicap, of £750, six furlongs. On the second day (he main races will be the Services Handicap, of £IOOO, IV 4 miles, and the Devonport Handicap, of £750, six furlongs. At both the mid-spring and mid-summer meetings the two-year-old race one day is confined to colts and geldings and on the other to fillies. IMPROVING TROTTER BEL ESPRIT A STAYER After her forward running in the Green Lane Handicap at Epsom on Labour Day. when she finished fourth in 4.40 3-5. it did not occasion surprise to find Bei Esprit racing prominently at the Wellington Trotting Club's meeting at Trentham last Saturday. Although at a good price when she ran. second to Rerewaka in the Jsai Nat Handicap. Bel Esprit was solidly supported for the laita Handicap, which she won nicely. She is a good stayer, and in most of her har shown to better advantage at two miles tuan ■at shorter distances.
