Throe hundred British businessmen who have arrived in Ottawa are on their way to different parts of Canada and the" United States to re-establish markets which lapsed (luring the war. Tliey represent various industries, including steel, shipping and aviation. The British motor-car industry was in a worse position to meet American competition than before the war. stated Sir Miles Thomas, vice-chairman of Morris Motors Industries. The whole output for three months was needed for export demand, but after the extreme hunger for cars had been satisfied in the Dominion markets it was problematical if British cars would continue to sell in overseas markets at the current prices.
Some Britisli industries were already in a fair position to meet big export orders, said the Secretary of the Department of Overseas Trade, Mr H. A. Marquand. In other industries there were various difficulties, but generally there was no serious shortage of material. The real bottlenecks were factory space and labour. Factory space was being released more quickly now, but it would be some time before the labour situation made full production possible. AUSTRIAN ELECTIONS (Recti. 5.35 p.m.) VIENNA, Oct.
