SERVICE WEDDINGS HOG AN—PHILLIPS The marriage of Miss Gwenyth Mary Phillips, second daughter of Mr and Mrs 1. Ji. Phillips, of Marau Crescent, Mission Bay, to Squadron Leader Dennis Edward Hogan, R.N.Z.A.F., D.F.C., only son of Mr and Mrs E. Hogan, of Coates Avenue, Orakei, took place on Saturday afternoon at St. David's Presbyterian Church, Khyber Pass. The Rev. W. Bower Black officiated. Tho bride, who was given away by her father, wore a lovely gown of cream brocaded satin, fully trained and cut on formal lines. A veil of Brussels lace was caught to her head by a topknot of lily-of-the-valley, and she carried an armlet of Christmas lilies and lily-of-the-valley. Draped frocks of dusky pink cloque and coronets of tulips in a deeper shade to match their bouquets were worn by the bride's sister, Miss Nancy Phillips, and the bridegroom's sister, Miss Audrey Hogan, wlio were bridesmaids. The host man was Squadron Leader J. J. de Willimoff and the groomsman Flight Lieutenant B. Hoskin. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Berkeley lounge. MARRIED AT TAKAPUNA SHEEHAN—SCHOLLUM St. Joseph's Church, Takapuna, was the scene of the wedding on Saturday morning of Miss Marjorie Teresa Scholium, youngest daughter of Mr arid Mrs George Scholium, of Byron Avenue, Takapuna, to Lieutenant Peter William Sheehan, second son of Mr and Mrs P. J. Sheehan, of May Street, Devonport. The Right Rev. Dr "j. M. Liston, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass, assisted by the Rev. Fathers J. J. Kelly and M. Furlong, Entering the church with her father, the bride wore a trained gown of ivory magnolia satin cut on classical lines, with beaded and quilted motifs on the bodice and a gathered skirt. Her shower bouquet and the topknot which fastened her hand-embroidered tulle veil were both of gold roses. Attending the bride were her cousin, Miss Avis Moffat, and her niece, Miss Moira Thomson, whose frocks were of white French taffeta, made with slimfitting rnohed bodices finished with tiny bows. Their Juliet caps of beaded taffeta were caught with clusters of red roses and they carried shower bouquets of the same flowers. The bridegroom was attended by Captain A. Morey and Master D. Sheehan. The reception after the ceremony was held at Ye Okie Pirate Shippe, Milford, the guests being received by Mrs Scholium assisted by Mrs Sheehan. PAPAROA BRIDE SUNDBERG—AICKIN A wedding of wide interest throughout Northland took place on Saturday evening at St. Mark's Church, Paparoa, when Miss Margaret Kathleen Aickiu, only daughter of Mr and Mrs E. G. Aickin, of Paparoa, was married to Mr Joel Edwin Sundberg (recently returned from the Middle East), second son of Mr and the late Mrs P. J. Sundberg, of Dargavilie. Dr E. T. Dawson, of Whakatane, was at the organ, and the solo "Mv Prayer" was sung by Mrs H. H. Jeffreys.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming picture frock of white organdie over satin, made with a finely pin-tucked bodice and a very full trained skirt, inset with Brussels lace. A lovely lafe-trimmed veil was caught to her head by a topknot of roses and lily-of-the-valley, and she carried a bouquet of the same flowers. The bride's cousin, Miss Jean McCorkindale, of Remuera, and Miss Shirley Coates, of Matakohe, who attended her, wore picture frocks of primrose and blue silk net respectively over taffeta, the full skirts being finished with tiny velvet flowers. Their topknots were of blue irises and yellow tulips. The best man was Mr Murray Smith and the groomsman Mr Terry Aickin, both returned from service overseas. Mr and Mrs E. G. Aickin received the guests at a large reception after the ceremony.
DOMINION ROAD CEREMONY GERKEN—CANNELL The wedding took place at tho Dominion Road Methodist Church on Thursday afternoon of Miss Gwendolyn Ellen Cannell, only daughter of Mr J. E. P. Cannell, and the late Mrs G. E. Cannell, of 20 Haig Street, Whakatane, to Mr Leslie Frank Gcrken, elder son of Mrs Webb, of Blockhouse Bay, and tho late Mr Gcrken. The Rev. R. V. Jamieson officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory embossed satin, and an ivory tulle veil. She carried a bouquet of roses and lily-of-the-valley. Her attendant as matron-of-honour was Mrs G. Hitcliings, who wore a frock of cornflower blue crepe marocain and a halo lint to match. Her bouquet was of pink roses and stock. The best man was Mr Walter Sarong. Following tho ceremony a reception was held at the Domain Kiosk. SOCIAL NEWS Mrs Guy Hansard, Seaview Road, Remuera, returned home on Saturday after spending several months in Wellington. Miss Elizabeth Roberton, formerly of the staff of the Diocesan High School, left on the Andes to take up a position with Unrra as an interpreter in Greece. She is believed to be the first member of the Girl Guides' Association to go overseas in an official capacity to work with Unrra. Mrs Hugh Kaspor, of Koliijnarania, has returned home after attending the Dominion convention of tho Women's Christian Temperance Union held this year in Invercargill. After the convention Mrs Kasper toured Southland and was the guest speaker at a largo youth rally in Gore.
