I CRICKET SEASON TO OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP CYCLE RACE The cricket season will be opened in Auckland this afternoon. In the Auckland Association's senior championship two games will be played at Eden Park, the main attraction being between Parncll and Middlemore on the No. 2 wicket. University and Eden will fry conclusions on the No 3 ground. North Shore will play Y.M.C.A. at Devonport, while Grafton and Ponsonby-Balmoral will meet at Papatoetoe. The Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association's competition will lie commenced ;it the Domain, Manukau and Green l>anc meeting on tin; Xo. 1 wicket. Hard-court tennis competitions will lie continued at Windmill Road, while the Auckland Softball Association will commence its activities al Kowlds Park. Golf club competitions will he continued and the 15U kilometres New Zealand cash cycling championship will be held from Morrinsville to Auckland. YACHT RACING ARRANGEMENTS FOR SEASON Arrangements were completed for the opening of the yachting season on Saturday. November 10, at a meeting of the Auckland Yacht and Motor-boat Association. Mr J. J. MacKay presided. As the Cornwell Cup contest will be hold at Akaroa, commencing on January 21, and the Auckland trials will be commenced off Westhaven this afternoon, the chairman stressed the need of all Z class boat owners to make sure that their craft conforms to the speciflcations. He stated that, although many of the boats had been inspected and granted certificates. enabling them to race this season, there were still several craft which did not comply with the rules. They, therefore, would be unable to race until a certificate was issued. Following the association's request to both the Minister of Supply and the Oil Fuel Controller that an increase of petrol should be granted for pleasure boats, the Minister stressed the position of petrol stocks. He hoped that he would be able to quadruple the allocation. The Minister also stated that, while special arrangements could not bo made for ex-servicemen generally, petrol was available for returned servicemen under special circumstances. The new measuring forms for X class were adopted. It was agreed that the Yacht and Motor-boat Association should iSold one copy and the boat owner another. To a request from the association that a light should be erected on False Head, Great Barrier Island, the Marine Department replied that the matter was under consideration.
