COMPETITION PLUS CO-OPERATION ] In business and economic affairs the choice is not between competition and co-operation. Rather, what is needed is a blending of the two if we are to have progress in industry, the widest range ol employment, and a higher standard of living. To'call for "co-operntion" and State bureaucracy as a complete substitute for competition is to ignore the real facts of life. "To be protected against competition is to be protected in mental dullness/' said J. S. Mill. Nothing can take the place of competition as a stimulus to effort. initiative and achievement. The Free _ Enterprise system believes that competition has a big place in life and meets a real human need. Competition supplies "drive" and "povrer." xree enterprise and State enterprise should work on their merits and be judged on their merits.—Advt.
