YOUTH KILLED
COMPANION IN HOSPITAL CYCLE STRUCK BY CAR (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sunday A youth was killed and another injured in Victoria Street, Lower Hutt, early this morning when a bicycle on which they were both riding was struck from behind by a car. The youth killed was
Duncan McLennan, aged 18. of 75 Cambridge Terrace, Lower Hutt.
Trevor Gibbie, aged 17, of 73 Cambridge Terrace, Lower Mutt, suffered concussion and shock. He was admitted to the Hutt Hospital. The accident occurred shortly after 1.30 a.m., when the youths were returning home from a dance. TWO BOYS INJURED FALL FROM BICYCLE CONDITION OF BOTH SERIOUS Two youths were seriously injured when the bicycle on which they were both riding struck a power transformer at the intersection of Sarsfield Street and Hamilton Bond, Heme Bay. early on Saturday afternoon. Anthony Graham Boyle, aged 14, grocer's assistant, son of Mr M. Boyle, of 93 Islington Street. Ponsonby, suffered head injuries and concussion, and Francis J. Aldred. aged 16. shop assistant, nephew of Miss M. Cairns, of 90 John Street, Ponsonby, suffered severe concussion.
Both Youths were admitted to the Auckland Hospital. Boyle is in a serious condition and Aldred's condition is very serious.
FATAL COLLISION TRUCK DRIVER KILLED (P A.) NEW PLYMOUTH. Saturday A fatal accident occurred on the main road a short distance north of New Plymouth last evening. The victim was Mr J. McLean, aged 40, married, with one child, painter, of Waitara.
A truck Mr McLean was driving collided with a car driven by Mr H. Roberts, of New Plymouth. Mr McLean suffered injuries from which he died two hours later.
A passenger in the truck, Mark Soffe, aged 17, of Waitara, and Mr Roberts were admitted to hospital with slight injuries.
CAR GOES OVER RANK Concussion was suffered by a truck driver, Mr John Henry McDonald, need 44, df 57 Sentinel Road, Heme Bay, when the steering wheel of the car lie was driving broke and the car ran oyer a bank on the Pokeno road yesterday after noon. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital ?md his condition is fairlv serious.
FLYING-BOAT DELAYED The Tasnian Empire Airways flvingboat, which was to have arrived at Auckland on Saturday afternoon, has been delayed at Sydney and is now expected today. The passengers include Sir Keith Smith, the famous Australian pioneer aviator, and Sir l.oui.s Beale. who was British Trade Commissioner in New Zealand from 1920 to 1028.
During the war. Sir Louis was a member of the Anglo-French Purchasing Board in New York. Sir Keith Smith and his brother, the late Sir Ross Smith, flew from England to Australia in 1919, the first flight between the two countries. Sir Keith represents Tickers, Ltd., in Australia.
