ADULT EDUCATION LECTURE The place of women in business, industry and the home was discussed by Miss E. .M. Smith, tutor-organiser, in the sixth lecture in the "Women in the Community" series arranged bv the Advisory Committee ol" Adult Kdueation. Miss Smith said the first World War had brought about a huge influx of women into industry and the professions, and the second one had brought in the married women. The final result of this great change remained to bo worked out. Different countries were tackling the problem of the employment of married women in different ways. Hutchinson gave a short history of the advancement of maternity welfare in New Zealand. HOSPITAL AUXILIARY A purchase of dressing-gowns and cardigans by the Onehunga branch for the old people in Cornwall Hospital, and of gowns by the main branch for use in tlie Auckland Hospital, was reported at the council meeting of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary, held in the nurses' home. The president, Mrs A. I) Campbell, presided, Reports were received from the branches and sub-branches, including one from the Mental Hospital branch, which stated that another radio had been installed for the patients. CHILDREN'S PARTY The children of Wailieke were entertained at a victory party by Mr and Mrs l.a I'Yanchie and their son at the Onetangi Private Hotel last Saturday. Prizes were liberally distributed for games, races and a treasure hunt. Tinjokes and antics of a clown proved popular with the children. A victory cake, decorated with Hags of the allied nations, was a feature of the afternoon tea. When the children continued their games. Mrs La I'Yanchie served tea to the parents and friends.
