SORENSON IN NORTH TEAM TETZLAFF EMERGENCY BACK Another alteration in the North Island team to play the South Island at Eden Park on Saturday afternoon has been made necessary through the inability to play of B. Couch, of Wairarapa, who was selected as second five-eighths. His place will be taken by K. Sorenson, of Auckland. P. Tetzlaff, of Auckland, will be the emergency hack. Sorenson played for the North Island, at Wellington, two years ago in the first five-eighths position. AUCKLAND UNION MEETING EDEN PARK ACCOMMODATION The chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union, Mr S. S. Dean, was welcomed at a meeting of delegates to the management committee of the Auckland union last evening. Mr A. A. Baker presided. Mr Dean said he was greatly impressed with the enthusiasm shown by the Auckland public in the North Island versus South Island fixture at Eden Park next Saturday. He was also very pleased with the completo arrangements made by the Auckland union for the contest. Messrs L. S. Drake and J. W. Lethbridge were appointed assistant managers of the South and North Island teams respectively. 'l'he chairman expressed the regret of the union that all intending patrons were unable to reserve seats for the match. He said it was acknowledged that the grandstand accommodation was inadequate. For some time past a sub-committee of representatives of the Auckland Cricket Association and the Auckland Rugby Union had been considering schemes for the erection of a new stand and for great improvements to Eden Park facilities. A tentative scheme, including the erection of a stand to accommodate 5000 people, was under consideration, and an architect was preparing preliminary estimates. It was hoped that the whole proposals would be completed in time to enable the work to bo put ir. hand as soon as building conditions permitted. It was decided that (he New Zealand union should be approached for a loan to assist in general improvements to Eden Park. It was resolved to send a letter of congratulation to Mr E. D. Hill on his appointment as referee for the North-South Island fixture. It was agreed to inako a grant of £75 to tho Auckland Referees' Association for its 50th anniversary celebrations. PRIMARY SCHOOLS' TOURNEY The Auckland provincial primary schools' Rugby tournament for the Roller Mills Shield was continued at Eden Park yesterday. South Auckland, 0; City North, 27 (tries by Brown, 2, Wickenden, Mazzoleni, Austin, three converted by Silva and two penally goals by Farrington), Waikato, 3 (penalty goal by Carrington). BILLIARDS TOURNEY Champion o( Champions.—The match between K. Whitford. Auckland open champion, and J. Shepherd, Auckland amateur champion, was concluded lust evening. Whitford led at the conclusion of the first session by 501 (in play) to ITS), and he eventually won bv 101)0 to 875. Whitford's best breaks were 35, 53, 32. 38, 52, 73, 52, 35, while Shepherd compiled 50, 11, 00, 38, 50, 33. The average for the second session was 11.3. The scores were level at 703 and then Whitford obtained the necessary points in his next 15 visits to the table His average over this stage was 20 points.
