TABANAKI DOINGS SMART SPRINTS AT HAWERA (0.C.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday Smart half-mile sprints by Silver Pal, Drambuie and Black Plato were recorded at Hawera yesterday. Fast work took place on the course proper, with the flags out 35 feet. The going was holding. Peter's Choice ran the last three o! four furlongs in 425. Drambuie covered four furlongs nicely in 54%5? Black Plato, in a similar task, took 555, running the last three furlongs attractively in -10 Vis. Silver Pal, with the assistance of Corday over the last two, ran four furlongs in 54Vis. Silver Pal is making good progress. Barras worked steadily over a mile, sprinting the last two furlongs in *27s. General Saleve ran half a mile in 55 l-ss. Manpower returning 555. Going from the seven-furlong post, Alderman sprinted three furlongs down the back comfortably in 40s. On .the sand. Ocean Song completed a useful effort with two furlongs in 275. Jevington displayed fine dash in sprinting two furlongs in 25V 3 5. Gay Anne ran half a mile in 545. The two-year-olds by Chatsworth from Tavoy and Robin Goodfeliow from Rapt pleased in a sprint over a furlong and a-half. A Broiefort filly, having her first gallop, went satisfactorily with White Diamond in a similar task. The Chatsworth—Tavoy youngster. Bramerton and White, Diamond, are to make their first public appearance in the Debutant Stakes on the first day of the Wanirauui Jockey Club's Spring Meeting. There was not a great amount of work at Stratford, where the course proper, with the flags out 40 feet, was available. Quick Draw, galloping freely, ran the last three furlongs of her work in 38%5. Dink's Own and Almaza were on terms at the completion of four furlongs in 545. Keen Play and Dunbar covered five furlongs in 1.7%. The Hawera jockey L. J. Clutterbuck has been engaged to ride First In in her Australian engagements, and will leave for Sydney early next month. Clutterbuck expects to ride at New Plymouth on September 1. UNITED NATIONS' WIN ELIGIBILITY QUESTIONED The question whether United Nations was. eligible to run in the Bullock-Webster Han dicap. which he won at Ellerslie on Satur day. may have to be considered by the com mittee of the Pakuranga Hunt. The condi tions of the Bullock-Webstrt Handicap say "No horse will be eligible which ,has won a race of any description of the value of morf than £IOO prior to the time of startins (hunters' races excepted)." United Nations won the Waimata Hact Handicap at Gisborne on February. 10. Ac cording to the official calendar the rac6 wa? worth £llO to the winner. ROTORUA CLUB OFFICERS RE-ELECTED (0.C.) ROTORUA, Wednesday At the annual meeting of the Rotorua Racing Club yesterday officers we're re-elected ns follows:—Patron, Mr G. F. Sim, M.P.: president, Dr H. Bertram; ■ vice-presidents Messrs F. Goodson and W- H. Wackrovv; committee, Dr S. H. Hay, Messrs H. W. Burch. A. D. Hardie. R. T. Mark and E. Roe; treasurer, Mr E. A. Meredith. The annual report stated that early repossession of Arawa Park had been assumed. The thanks of the executive were extended to the Matamata Racing Club for the use of its course during the war years. The. balance-sheet showed a small loss on 'he year's working, but a substantial increase was occasioned mainly by Crown compensation totalling £4170. Certain- buildings valued at £BSO had also been purchased. The president said the course should be restored in time for the February meeting. A discussion ensued on the alleged free access of unauthorised persons to the birdcage at race meetings, and the Question was referred to the executive for further consideration.
