£12,088,286 TURNOVER DAIRY COMPANY'S FIGURES (0.C.) HAMILTON, Wednesday A gross turnover of £12,038,286 was revealed in the accounts of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co.. Ltd., presented at the 26th annual meeting of shareholders today. The general manager, Mr C. J. Parlane, said that production had totalled 113,778,0601b of butterfat. The payment lor finest quality butterfat for buttermaking was 20.6144 d, while the average payment over all grades was 20.4352 d, this including the farm cost allowance ol 2.8116(1 and factory cost allowance of ,2676 d. Payments made to suppliers to the company's 24 cheese factories varied according to local conditions, the average being 22.4179 d. Mr Pari a lie said the quality of finest butter made by the company had improved by 3 per cent, although cheese showed little movement. There had been an increase in the quantity of milk powder produced, while the output of evaporated milk had been maintained. A very successful season had been experienced with respect .to the town milk scheme. The company's box department had experienced difficulties, and a large number of fibre-board containers were imported. In addition, the company made 849,073 boxes. A total of 1,522,997 containers were made by the company during the year. Mr Karlane said that all the company's factories had been maintained in first-class condition, and new plant, including water treatment equipment, had been installed. The latest type of plant was being placed in the company's milk powder and evaporated milk factories. Arrangements had been made for the erection of 27 dwellings at factories
where they were required. The company's trading and machinery departments had operated successfully, while encouraging support had been given to the farm accounts and taxation service provided. During the year, additional office accommodation iiad been built at Hamilton. As more staff became available, a more efficient and expeditious service could be given. The shareholders had every reason to be proud of the fact that by their loya! co-operation over the years they now owned and controlled tlie largest cooperative farmers' organisation, as well as the largest commercial concern in the Dominion. Mr F. E. Hughes reported that the company's four pig farms had experienced the most profitable season on record. The pigs sold totalled 6965 and the turnover £36,080, against 6806 pigs sold and a turnover of £30,111 for the previous season. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Messrs Hutchison, Elliffe and Cameron were reappointed auditors. Votes of thanks were passed to the directors, officers and staff of the London and New Zealand offices. DIRECTORS ELECTED An election to fill two vacancies on the board of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., resulted in the return of Mr D. Bruce, of Horsham Downs (sitting member) for the south-western electoral district, and Mr T. L. Harper, of Matangi, for the south-eastern district. The two vacancies on the directorate of the Whangarei Dairy Co., Ltd.. have been filled bv the election of Messrs R. J. Babe and S. W. Crawford. Mr Babe is a sitting member, but Mr Crawford is new to the board. The other retiring director, Mr T. O'Carroll, did not seek re-election.
