GALLOPS AT HASTINGS SIX FURLONGS BY MATADOR (0.c.) HASTINGS, Tuesday The course proper was used exclusively this morning for galloping at Hastings. Although not fast, it was in good order. Many of the horses in work here are now commencing to move along seriously in preparation lor spring engagements. From ft standing start Ritz ran six furlongs in 1.22, the last three in ■lds. Magic Art covered six furlongs nicely in 1.11). She has disappointed at her last two starts, hut has probably not been suited by the high scale of weights in the hunters' flat class. She may do better under a lighter scale. Dark Morning, who is booked to leave tomorrow for Xew Plymouth, galloped seven furlongs in 1.32. Ho was assisted over the last half-mile in 51s by Goody Two Shoes. Battle Survey, who is developing into a fine type of three-year-old, carried well over nine stone to record .VJs for half a mile. Ho may be one of G. Greene's team to make the W'anganui trip early next month. Gayjax went evenly throughout while running seven furlongs in 1.33. Treasure lee, getting the belter of the start by two lengths, led Magnus Lux over half a mile in 5H>. Treasure Tee is very forward. Itoto Parera came away near the end to beat Royal Greek over six furlongs in 1.20. Royal Greek has not raced well in the last three months. There is a doubt regarding his wind. ELLERSLIE TRAINING SPRINT BY DUKE ROYAL A smart four furlongs by Duke Royal in 52s was the feature of the work at Ellcrslie yesterday. Early intentions were to race him in the Avondale Guineas next month, but it iias now been decided to run him in the maiden event. The \'o grass was used and the •-ruing was dead. Rajnlal and Broiedame covered three furlongs easily in 4.'t u Rajnlal is a good-looking three-year-old trebling by Te Hero from Miss Valerie who is being trained by F. E McManemiri. He was unplaced in two starts last season Bhopal beat Honora over three furlongs in 42 l-ss. Bhopal is showing improved condition, although she is not very robust. Honora is a Ibree-year-old filly by Dink from Caliente. dam of Hot Pursuit, and is trained by R. S. Bagby. She had two unplaced starts last, season. Beau Mai and Red Paint dashed over three furlongs iri -II l-ss. Both have yet to race. Beau Mai is a three-year-old filly by Bean Repaire and Red Paint is a gelding by Vermeer from Lady Robin. Kentish strode over four furlongs in 56 -1-SS. the first in 11 3-ss. He has been working nicely and should be well forward for the Avondale Jockey Club's Spring Meeting on September 8. M. Lindsay has taken in hand a five-year-old gelding by Safari from The Vamp. He is to race at (he Avondale meeting and then be given a preparation for hurdle events. The latest addition to W. ,T. Fergus' team is a three-year-old filly by Vnals from Tepoto. She does not look particularly robust, but ha« improved in appearance since coming into work a couide of weeks ago. Tepoto was speedy and raced creditably in the Auckland district in the period between 1038 and 1011 She was by Tea Tray from Maniella. TAKANINI WORK USEFUL SPRINTS RECORDED The three-year-olds B.vcroft and Royal Slipper were responsible for smart efforts at Takanini yesterday on the middle grass. The footing was dead. HAMILTON, Tuesday The statement that the four days' racing during the past season had resulted in a totalisator turnover of £103,035 and stakes paid had run into £OSOO is made in the annual report of the Waikato Trotting Club to be presented to the annual meeting on Monday. After writing off depreciation ami providing £4OO for fixation, the net profit amounted to £720. This proved the wisdom of the amalgamation of the South Auckland clubs during the period of wartime restrictions, added the report. With the increasing number of horses in training, the provision of additional facilities was essential, and the committee was endeavouring to provide these, together with the necessary public facilities.
