PAEWAI INCLUDED

NORTH ISLAND TEAM FIVE OTHER AUCKLANDERS (P. A.) WELLINGTON. Sunday Messrs A. McDonald (Wellington), X. McKenzie (Hawke's Bay) and l<". W. Lucas (Auckland) have chosen tlie following team to, represent, tho North Island against the South Island at Auckland on August 25: — Fullback.—B. A. Wishnowsky (Wellington). Threequarters.—J. Dunn (Auckland), L. B. Pearson (Waikato), T. C. Morrison (Wellington). Five-eighths.—B. Couch (W a intra pa), G Delauiore (Taranaki). Halfback.—M. X. I'aewai (Auckland), forwards.—Front row, V. Elisor (Waikato). E. H. Catley (Waikato), B. Waldegrave (Auckland); locks. M. McHugh (Auckland), P. C'oull (Taranaki); side of scrum, A. W Bowman (Wellington), J. Gunning (Auckland); back of scrum, D. Christian (Auckland). Emergencies.—Back, D. Barchard (Auckland); forwards. R. M. Wliite (Wellington).

The inclusion of I'aewai creates a surprise, as he was not nominated by the Auckland selector, Mr Lucas. The selectors, however, were not restricted to nominations. Most followers of the game in Auckland regarded P. Tctzlaff as a certainly for tho halfback position in tho North Island team, more particularly after his brilliant display against Waikato last Saturday week. Two of the selectors. Messrs McKenzie and Lucas, watched that match. Auckland's representation of six players in tho sido is an excellent one. Dunn retains his position on tho right wing, while the other four Aucklanders are in the forwards. Three of them, Mcllugh, Gunning and Christian, were in the North Island team last year, when Auckland was represented by seven players. Waldegrave, an honest front row forward, has well earned his place.
