AWAPUNI TRAINING

REORAPA DISPLAYS DASH KILLEYMOON ALSO GOES WELL (0.C.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday The tracks at Awnpiini were iri fairly good order this morning, when the weather was fine but bitterly cold. There was plenty of jumping, the steeplechasers doing most of it. The outstanding gallops wer o those of Reorapa and Killeymoon and Grey Salute over five furlongs, and of Olga's Pal and Sailor's Song over four furlongs. > ReOrapa (Broughton) beat Theolateral (S. WaddellJ by two lengths over five furlongs in 1.8 3-5. They were together until reaching the straight, where Reorapa drew away. Reorapa went very pleasingly. Killeymoon (Sellars) was slightly cetter than Grey Salute (A. Waddell) over five furlongs in 1.8 8-5. The first two furlongs were run in 27 2-ss, arid they finished strongly. Last Match, Sporting Gold and Brilliant Scholar (Ireland) were in the order named at the conclusion of a mile. They ran the last six furlongs in 1.30 and worked kindly. Manpower covered five furlongs comfortably in 1.12. Spiro (Sellars), Ascot Bloom (Buchanan) and Toora Vale (Broughton) were in close order after running the last seven furlongs of a mile in 1.42 3-5, the last three in 42 l-ss. Happy Climax (Bowness) and Solver (A. .Waddell) pleased by running five furlongs in 1.11, the last three in 425.

Gold Money Song (Andrews) covered a mile in 1.50, the last five furlongs-in 1.13 2-5. Coratrix (A. Waddell) and Swift Jay (S. Waddell) were timed to run a mile in 1.58 1-5, taking 13 3-5s for the last three furlongs. Foxbridge Bay (Broughton), Speed King (Sellars) and Lucky Dip (W. J. Stevens) went from the seven-fnrlong barrier. Lucky Dip pulling up after going four furlongs. The others continued to cover the last six furlongs in 1.2(3 3-5. Extra (Brady) was first to tackle the country. He began at the logs and went round to the straight, where he was speeded up for the run home. He jumped carefully, but gave a very sound display. Dunvegan (Walfher) followed shortly after, and jumped splendidly. Endurance (Pagan) jumped well, and Lady Premier (Andrews) gave her usual display of fast jumping. One of the most interesting trials over the steeplechase fences was that of Ligtitfair IW. .Jenkins), Ballyaggan (Baker) and Land Cry (Rouse), the pace being solid all the way. Land Cry did well until they came to the logs the second time, when he fell. The others went on to finish with the sodwall. Land Cry was remounted and completed the school. Lord Mascot went with New Battle. They jumped well until they came to the stand double, where New Battle ran off. Lord Mascot jumped really well. Red Sign (Buchanan), Centre Light (S. Waddell) and Sir Mark (C. Dent) went once round over the steeplechase fences. Red-Sign and Centre Light jumped well, hut Sir Mark lost ground at every fence. Valley's Boy was another to jump the country. He is improving. Ideation (Rouse) and British Mint i(.haplin) were associated in a bout over (our hurdles. They gave a sound display. Plato Boy was seen to more advantage than Peach King in a school over-three hurdles.

ELLERSLIE TRACK

GAY STAR SPRINTS NICELY The best gallop at Ellerslie yesterday was recorded by Gay Star, who sprinted three furlongs in 10 2-ss. She jumped away smartly and finished under a firm hold. Gay Star has been doing nicely since returning from a spell and should be seen racing to advantage in the near future. The Xo. '.2 grass was in use and the going was fair. Yama was clear of Kentish at the end of four furlongs in 53 3-ss. Kentish has run several fine races this season, hut has failed to win One of his three placings was third in the Railway Handicap, won by "Neenah. Kentish has been a very consistent performer over four seasons of racing, winning four races as a two-year-old in the 11)41-42 season. Diavii, a two-year-old gelding by Diatomous from Survival, went easily throughout four furlongs in 50 2-sfl. Survival is a halfsister to Riverlands Roe, who was in the hack class at Te Rapa in May. Master Robert was not bustled over four furlongs in 58s. lie is a half-brother to Billy Peach, who did well this season. Master Robert is smallish, but has shown improvement in the last few weeks. A gelding by Lnrina from Lady Leslie gave a careful showing over four hurdles. W. Philp has returned from Wellington with two new charges, Fosse-way and Airlie. Fosse-way is a four-year-old maiden gelding bv Legatee from Mercian Bell and was purchased by Mr L. F. B. Nicholson, of Auckland. Airlie is a four-year-old gelding by Ringmaster from Lattice. Both will he given education as jumpers within the next few weeks.

TAKANINI WORK . YORKISH SPRINTS WELL The work at Takamni yesterday was confined to short sprints, Yorkish, who covered five furlongs attnfctively in 1.5 2-5, being the only one to exceed half a mile. The outside grass was used and the going was dead. The best effort over four furlongs was credited to Cororiaire arid Baltron, who ran iht distance in 535. Jovial, Song, travelling smoothly, recorded 51s, time that was equalled by Lady Adornment and Waiting. General Burleigh and Regal March had a good deal in reserve while running four furlongs in 50s. Foxlore and Steppeland wero not doing their best to return 575, while Yours and Mine, going easily, took 58s. Night of Nights returned the best figures, 4is, for three furlongs. Balgowan galloped freelv to register II 2-ss. Working separately, Broriya and Default covered the same ground in 43 2-ss. Bycroft was sent four furlongs, being limed to run the last three in 11 l-ss.

SNOW AT RICCARTON WITHDRAWAL OF BRANTOME (0.C.) CHHISTCIJUHCH. Thursday The impressive performance of Brantome on the first day of the recent Wellingtoln meeting invested his proposed trip to Riccarton with widespread interest, but he was withdrawn from all engagements at 4 p.m .yesterday. The condition of the Riccarton racecourse, which is covered with about a foot of snow, is causing some anxiety to all concerned, and unless it thaws in a few days the usual training tracks are not likely to be available until well into next week. This will mean that horses being prepared for the Grand National Meeting will not be able to get any fast work or schooling Tor at least a week and their exercise will have to be confined to roads or to sand track, which has been cleared of snow and is now in general use. Some North Island horses have arrived. Including Spirillum and Abdicate. The latter has gone on to Washd.vke to be trained by E. ,T. Ellis until after the Grand National Meeting. Others who proposed arriving early to complete the preparation of their horses at Riccarton will probably delay their arrangements as long as possibte.
