TRAINING AT TE BAPA GOOD JUMPING BY ALBINO (0.c.) HAMILTON, Tuesday Tlie presence of many visiting horses for the Waikato Racing Club's Winter Meeting on Saturday lent considerable interest to the work at Te Rapa, this morning, when the going was soft. Albino, Bisquit, Rockery, Roman Orator, Sir Waimai and Haereatu jumped well over steeplechase fences. Mnggiore, Captain Courageous, Ballyneety and Kiatere Maati pleased in their schooling over hurdles and the speedy Riverlands Roe did the best gallop on the Hat. * Kiatere Maati (Cox) was sent, over three hurdles and gave a sound display. Ballyneety (Muir) showed a clear pair of heels to Land Court (L. C. Brown) over six hurdles. Ballyneety, a dashing jumper, is an acceptor for the Seddon Hack Hurdles. As he lias been working and schooling: well, he must be conceded a chance. Maggiore (Heasley) srave a dashing exhibition in company with Town Survey (L. C. Brown) and Varuna (Collett) over six hurdles. There was little between them throughout, although Maggiore always appeared to be going best. Her display will bring her into favour for the Hamilton Hurdles. Town Survey and Varuna also went well, Town Survey being inclined to jump a little extravagantly. Captain Courageous (S. Brown) gave a good display for a novice over three hurdles, lied Ledger (Cox) accompanied him and went on alone over a further three. Another bright exhibition over three hurdles was that of Mazoe (Beguely) and Bronze Night (Winder), who took the fences in their stride. They had the pace on all the way. Mazoe gave a most encouraging performance for a novice. The Vulture Jumps Carelully One of the features of the morning was the fine display over country of Albino (Heasley). Albino shaded Abbey Lu (Hayes) throughout a round of the steeplechase course, nine fences in all, The Vulture (Hawes) being well behind. Albino gave a polished display and Abbey Ln also jumped well. The Vulture, fencing carefully, soon dropped behind. On coming to the brush entering the straight he slipped into the side of the fence and came down. Bisquit (It. Collett) gave a good exhibition over a round of the country, drawing away from Royal Musgo (Cox) and Waiwaintii, who was some lengths away at the finish. Royal Musgo led early, jumping in dashing style, but was headed toward the finish by Bisquit. who led over the hencoop and brush double. Bisquit appears to be in capital order. Rockery (Johnson) and Roman Orator (Sinton) were associated over a round of the country and there was little between them in an excellent exhibition. The only blemish in Rockery's display was when he got in close to the second of the brush double. Roman Orator, a winner at the patriotic meeting in April, has maintained his condition well and shoiild be hard to beat in the Melville Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase. Sir Waimai Goes Well Sir Waimai (W. Caddy) showed to advantage in shading Haereatu (Winder), with Curtail (Cox) well back, at the completion of a circuit of the steeplechase course. Sir Waimai looks improved as a result of his race in the Freyberg Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase last month. Haereatu also made a bold showing. He seems to have made some progress since he ran in the Freyberg Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase and may snow improvement in his next few starts. Tangirere (S. Brown) was schooled over the hencoop and the brush double in front of the stands, jumping carefully. Moderate, who looks a picture, was worked at a strong half-pace on the inside grass. His success at Te Aroha last week was impressive and he should run prominently again in the Hamilton Hurdles on Saturday. He will again be ridden by R. Heasley. On the outside of the course proper, Riverlands Roe. a good track worker, set the main over a round, finishing clear of Mr Rowl and Brown Atom in 2.12%. Jollyfox and Orakau could have improved upon the 2.15 which they took to complete a circuit. Orakau is quite at home under winter conditions. Jollyfox is in good nick. Gulf Stream was associated over six furlongs with Lord Dink in 1.27 4-5. There was little between them at the (inisn and both went pleasingly. Royal Meer beat Te Heroine over a round in 2.18. Black Beret finished in front of Foxstar at the end of half a mile in 595. Riding engagements for Saturday Include; —E. M. Fraser, Craven, Captain Courageous; R. Caddy, Sir Duke, Greek Deko. Irish Fox; J. Hayes, Gayjax, Paid; S. Brown, Gay Land; I. Galvin, Air Port, Gaymeer. Esmonde; S. Cox, Red ledger, Surpai. KLLERSLIE TRACK SPRINT BY GOLDEN PAY The best sprint at Ellersiie yesterday was a useful half-mile by Golden Pay, who ran 51 4-ss. the first furlong in 13s. Golden Pay went evenly throughout and was not pressed at Ibe finish. He is a smart track galloper, whose public form has been poor. At the recent Whangarei meeting lie ran a third and a fourth in two starts in moderate company. The No. 2 grass was used for galloping and the going was heavy. Gay Chat was well ahead of Fight On at the end of five furlongs in 1.0 1-5, after running the last three in -to ;}-ss. Fight On worked lazily. On the other hand. Gay Chat went very freely. Scotch Tweed covered four furlongs in 52 3-ss, the last three'in -10s. Tiger Tan sprinted three furlongs in 3t)s. Cowper ran four furlongs in 535, upon which he could have improved. He seems to be doing well. Kentish also returned 53s for four furlongs. Slavonik bowled along from the sixfurlong post and ran the last three in 40 l-ss. Leigh Hark worked with plenty of dash to finish three furlongs in 40 l-ss. Ra Ora and Royal Honour left four furlongs behind in 53 1 -ss. Other gallops were;— Three Furlongs.—Bay Jim, (0 3-ss. Four Furlongs.—Yes Tor, 53 2-SS; Transfix, 545; Dies Fatistus and Embassy, 55 2-ss; "Skateaway and Rina Light, 565; Sir Dingle and Broicdame, sfis; Red Warden, 58s. Five Furlongs.—Nawab, 1.7; Hunting Mac, 1.10. Six Furlongs.—Sir Dink, 1.20, Flylite (Thompson) and British Talent (Howard) went round the hurdle track over four hurdles. Flylite was the more impressive. although they finished on terms. Royal Doil (Ritchie) went over fonr steeplechase fences on the flat, jumping quickly and cleverly. Good Fun (Anderson) gave a satisfactory performance over four hurdles. TAKANINI DOINGS GOOD WORK BY SLEEPY FOX On the inside grass with the poles out ten feet Sleepy Fox galloped five furlongs in 1.4 al Takanini yesterday. It was ft pleasing effort as Sleepy Fox did his work well on a dead track. Waiting and Hunting Park, who are engaged at the Waikato Racing Club's Winter Meeting at Te Rapa on Saturday, were associated in a six-furlong task, which they ran in 1.21. Both galloped impressively. Cambria and Royal Merit were together at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. In a similar effort Regal March and Yorkish recorded 1,6 1-5. Gay Joy ran the same distance in 1.8 3-5 and Chatmoney took 1.9 2-5. Gay Lally, who is in nice order, was responsible for a solid effort over a mile in 1..41 2-5. Another good gallop waß that of Kronos and Beau Siri, when they registered 1.21 3-5 for six furiongs. Landveyor was not set a serious task te run four furlongs in 60s. AWAPUNI HORSES RED GLARE JUMPS WELL (0.C.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday One of the features of the work at Awapuni this morning was the jumping of Red Glare (A. Jenkins) and Indian Sign (W. Carter) over the steeplechase fences. They began at the logs and went a complete round, Jumping the logs and the sodwail a second time. They went at a good pace and jumped well throughout. The trial grass.' where the going was soft, was used for galloping. One of the heat efforts was that of Sovereign Lad, who levelled in the going. Others to work pleasingly were Flying Ace anfJ Sir Bradbury, Broifield and Hakim, and Kaitoa. Rink was let off with a light task. He ran disappointingly in the heavy going at Hawera. Foxian.i was on the course and seemed all < right. It is unlikely that he will race at Te Rapa or Ellersiie. Present intentions are to : give him his next race in the Wanganui i Steeplechase. Findon, looking a picture, If on the big i side, wa* given a coupe of rounds of pace i work. Findon and Epping were to leave for i Te Rapa this evening. . i Tan tie Pane" is to race at Marton, and on his showing depends whether he will go to < Ellersiie. J.
