JUDGE WELCOMED MR JUSTICE CORNISH Mr Justice . Cornish, the former Solicitor-General, who was recently appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court-, assumed duty at Auckland yesterday. At the lunch adjournment the council of the Auckland District Law Society waited on His Honor in his chambers and the president. Mr A. Milliken, tendered congratulations and a welcome to the city. His Honor's associate is Miss J. P. Williams. HERITAGE MOVEMENT FIRST ANNUAL REPORT There are about 250 children under the age of 16 years and about 165 widows on the register of the Heritage Movement in Auckland, states the.first annual report of the president, Mr Justice Callan, which will be presented to the annual meeting to be held in the Chamber of Commerce Hall today. The movement commenced in Auckland in November, 1943, with the object ot assisting the dependants of deceased servicemen. ■' Negotiations are in train for the establishment of a branch at ngarei. states the report. Dental, medical and educational benefits have been made available to many children and an arrangement has been made with a large number of Auckland dentists with the result that services are at little cost to the movement. Christmas and birthday presents are given to each child on the register. Donations received during the year amount to £ll9B, the president continues. "It would be unwise to name the many who have contributed so liberally to our funds, for in naming many we might omit one, but we can say that the support accorded us is an indication of the public's adcord with our objects."

OBITUARY MR JAMES D. DENIZE The death has occurred of Mr James D, Denize, a well-known resident of Onehunga, aged 89. Mr Denize's parenti arrived in Auckland from Jersev, Channel Islands, on the ship Merchantman in 1855, and he wa6 born in Wakefield Street. City, a year later. His father was a building contractor and he erected many buildings in the city. About 45 years ago Mr Denize took up a block, of land in the Waiuku district, and in 1915 he retired, and he had resided at Onehunga evet since. His wife predeceased him 18 years ago and he is survived by two- daughters and two sons, and there nre 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His surviving brother and sister are both octogenarians. CARRIERS' FEDERATION The president of the _ Auckland Owner-Driver Carriers' Association, Mr C. J. Mahon, of Papatoetoe, was reelected president of the New Zealand Carriers' Federation for the third successive vear at the annual meeting or the federation held in Wellington. Other officers were elected as follows: Vice-presidents, Messrs J. H. _ Moon (Auckland), F. Goodwin (Dunedin),' 0. Moran (Hutt Valley); secretary, Mr H. J. Knight (Wellington).
