TROTTING AT EPSOM

FIVE WINS FOR F. J. SMITH A feature of the Auckland Trotting Club's Patriotic Meeting at Epsom on Saturday was the success of the Takanini trainer and reinsnian, F. ,J. Smith. He won live events, three being consecutive races. All were well supported. Medical Student won the Churchill Handicap after a good battle with -Gallant Maid, and Volo Senwod scored a clear-cut victory in the Montgomery Handicap over Te Roto, who made a fine effort to win all the way. Smith's other successes were gained with Josio Dell, Great Belwin and the two-year-old Doctor Ted, who put up a splendid Sapling Stakes trial. The weather was fine and the track was in nice order. There was a good attendance. The totalisator handled £05,374, compared with £87,131) 10s at the patriotic meeting lan I .April, an increase of £8234 10s. Results:—-

TAKANINI TRACK USEFUL WORK PERFORMED Many of the horses at Takanini have been on the easy list since the Avondale Jockey Clnb's Autumn Meeting. The grass track was available on Saturday and a few horses did useful work. Park Royal ran four furlongs in 54 3-ss. Park Royal has not started since running unplaced in the Ellerslie Hack Handicap on January 1. Gay Lally strode over six furlongs in 1.83. Attest did six furlontrs in 1.26. Harris Tweed covered six furlongs In 1.25 l-r>. Fiorin ran three furlonsrs in 41 2-os. Beau Siri and Chief Jay placed four furlongs behind in 52 t-3s. On the plough, Old Scot, Katie Scarlett and Lady Adornment were responsible for four furlonsrs in 53 2-ss.
