STADIUM EVENTS TWO NEW STANDARDS SET Two Auckland records were broken and a third equalled in spectacular relay races at the Mount Albert Amateur Athletic Club's open meeting held at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Large entries were received and competition was keen and spirited. R. Agate, last year's sprint champion, ran a capital race to win his heat of the 220 yards in 22 3-ss. He did not compete in the final. In winning the junior 440 yards relay Old Grammarians cut, 1 3-5s off its own record of 48 4-ss. Ihe Auckland Club team, which won the senior relay, broke the record by jour-fifths of a second, while the Mount Albert team equalled the women's 440 yards relay record. SERVICES' MEETING THREE TITLES TO HARRIS Keen contests were witnessed at the Northern Military District combined services athletic championships, held under floodlight at Carlaw Park on Saturday night. D. M. Harris was in fine form and he gained three titles with comparative ease. A. Ambler, the well-known distance runner, won the one and three miles events, his performance in the latter being first-class. Miss V. N. Knight scored a double in the women's sprints, while the field ovents were also keenly contested. During the evening selections were played by the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band, which was given an enthusiastic hearing. MIDGET CAR RACING SEVERAL EXCITING EVENTS A crowd of over 10.000 witnessed au exciting series of midget car and motor-cycle races at Western Springs Stadium on Saturday night. Some of the fastest times of the season were registered and, although there were several collisions and cars were damaged, no drivers wore injured.
