CAR CATCHES FIRE

PLUNGE OVER A BANK FOUR OCCUPANTS INJURED (0.c.) OPOTIKI, Saturday Four people were injured, two' seriously, when a. motor-car caught lire and plunged over a bank into the stream at the first bend fvt the Jiutarere end of the W&inui Road. When the car was seen to be on fire the driver lost control and the vehicle tirst struck the bank and then swung to the opposite side of the road, plunging over the bank into the stream. The occupants were severely burned by the flames anu their immersion in cold water added to the shock. Those seriously injured U< Mrs S. Collier, of Kutarere. and a boy aged four named Oakes, a grandson of Mr W. Oakes. of Opotiki. The driver of the car, Mr W. b. Parkinson, and Mr S. Collier received less serious injuries. All four occupants of the car are reported to be making satisfactory progress. Their burns were on the tace, arms, hands and legs. The accident was discovered by Mr Livingstone, a traveller for Messrs Kempthorno Prosser, who brought the patients to the Opotiki Hospital.
