FORLI AIRFIELD

GREAT PART CAPTURED EIGHTH ARMY SUCCESS CIIIY TWO MILES AWAY (Peed. 11.30 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. 9 British troops of the Eighth Army in Italy are reported to have cap--1 tared the greater part of Forli airfield and to have fought their way to within less than two miles of 1 Forli itself. A correspondent says the Germans are still fighting hard at the extreme western end of the landing strips. A village two miles south of Forli fell to our troops yesterday in heavy fighting against German infantry and Tiger tanks. Since early yesterday morning Allied aircraft have again been dive-bombing enemy sfrongpoints near Forli, writes a correspondent. Tuesday's daylight attack by the Air Force on the enemy positions outside Forli were followed at night by a heavy artillery barrage, under cover of which troops were able to creep forward to strengthen their positions across the Ronco River. Yesterday morning the enemy was practically driven from the Forli airfield. and .British troops reached the village from where the road leads straight into the city. The stalemate which existed outside Forli is definitely ended, and the capture of the city is in sight, although hoavy fighting is ahead during the next few days, 'l he weather has been good lor several days now, but much depends on conditions during the next 2-1 hours.
