NAZIS' REFUGE
BASE IN ARGENTINA FRESH WARLIKE ACTIVITIES (Reed. 0.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 8 The N 'i/.is are planning to make Argentina (heir base for operations after (Jeiniany is defeated, says the .Montevideo newspaper El Pueblo. The paper says that high-ranking Nazis have arrived in Argentina on forged passports to make arrangements for their leaders. Among recent arrivals was Major-General Hans Stendmann, formerly a member of the Luftwaffe stair. He is reported to he strengthening Argentina's anti-aircraft defences. Another German official who arrived recently is Colonel Walther Osterkamp, former head of a fighter aviation school near Berlin. He is now reported to he employed at an Argentine fighter school at Cordoba. In addition there has been a steady influx of German engineers and technicians into Argentina, mostly through Spain. These Nazis are reported to be getting advisory military positions or jobs with local Argentine industries. Reports reaching Washington from Buenos Aires tell of a sharp expansion of armament production in Argentina. The Washington Post, commenting on the story in Kl Pueblo, says: "These German technicians will be able to carry on in Argentina activities which will be prohibited in defeated Germany. In addition to the flow of technical personnel from Germany,_ there has been a steady movement in the -same direction of dollar securities and United States currency looted by Nazis in occupied Europe. Argentina is fast becoming not only the principal 'fence for Nazi stolen goods, but also a seedbed where Nazi ideologies and warmaking proclivities will be re-germin-ated.
