WORST ELEMENTS

REPUBLICANS FEEED MR DEWEY EXPRESSES VIEW (Reed. 9.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 9 Speaking without a trace of bitterness or disappointment, Mr Dewey at a press conference expressed the opinion that the war solely was responsible for his defeat. He added that he was pleased by the close popular vote and said that the campaign had united the Republican Party. Apparently referring to the defeat of a number of isolationist members of Congress, Mr Dewey said: "We have got rid of the worst elements in the party." / The New York Post says: "Several new Republican Senators, including Governor Saltonstall, Massachusetts, and Mr Wayne Morse, Oregon, have expressed liberal views on international co-operation. At the same time, the isolationist Senators Taft, Tobey, Reed, Wiley and Millikan, and Messrs Hoffman and Rankin, members of the House of Representatives, have been reelected."
