The president, .Mrs 10. H. Sawer, presided, and welcomed the guests, who included the Mayoress, .Mrs .). A. C. Allum, .Mrs W. (,'. Pi ting, president- of the League of Mothers, Mrs .1. It. Mactarlane, president of the Victoria League, .Mrs 11. Barnicoat. Dominion president, of the Women's Institutes, .Miss Amy Kane, vice-president of the Dominion executive, and .Mrs Ward Chapman, president of the Waikato federation.

In Ii or presidential address, Mrs Sawer stressed the value of the work being done by the federation and the close co-operation maintained between its 3500 members and the various young people's movements. The annual report was presented by the secretary, Mrs I. Baulf, who particularly mentioned the extent of the war and patriotic work done by the federation, especially by some of the smaller institutes.

A special plea that every assistance possible should be given by the institutes to the Maori people was made by Mrs Barnicoat at the afternoon session. "We owe a great debt to our Maori servicemen overseas," said Mrs Barnicoat, "and we must do all we can to show our friendship to the Maori women left behind." She also urged that a warm welcome should be given to English war brides arriving in the Dominion to settle in country districts. Reports of the work done by the various sub-committees showed a fine record of service on behalf of_ patriotic organisations, the Merchant Navy, hospital visiting and in many other directions. Mention was made in the Dominion council report of the executive's decision to start a library of plays, which could be hired out to whatever institute wanted to borrow them for a period. A competition for the Mowbray Cup during the year was won by the Brown's Bay choir, with Buckland's Beach second and Mount Albert third.
