ADVERTISEMENT BANNED ACTION IN AUSTRALIA Manpower authorities in Tasmania and Western Australia have refused to permit publication in their States of Auckland City Council advertisements inviting applications for the position of parks superintendent at Auckland. Advice to tins effect has been received by the council through a firm of advertising agents. The firm said it had been advised that the advertisement would be appearing in an Adelaide paper but no acknowledgments had yet been received from Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. Copies of letters from the DirectorGeneral of Manoower in the Department of Labour' and National Service in both Tasmania and Western Australia were forwarded by the agents. These stated that publication of the advertisements could not be approved, but no reasons were given. The advertisements were circulated following a decision of the council last month to seek a successor to the present superintendent of parks, Mr T. S. Aldridge, who will reach the retiring age nest January. It was resolved to offer the position at £BOO a year and to invite applications from New Zealand and Australia and from the armed forces. The applications close on November 21. ARTIFICIAL LIMBS GOVERNMENT UNDERTAKING PURCHASE OF CITY FIRM As part of the Government's plan for the orthopaedic treatment of amputees and the fitting of artificial limbs, the firm of Zenith Artificial Appliances. Ltd., Cook Street, has been purchased by the State. Its proprietor and managing director, Mr A. L. Nugent, has been selected as technical and production supervisor for New Zealand in connection with limb-fitting and manufacture. An orthopaedic and limb-fitting centre already is in operation in Wellington, and a similar organisation will be included in the new vocational training centre to _be built at Horopito Street, Dominion Road. It will be administered by the Disabled Servicemen's Re-establishment League. The only firm of its type in Auckland, Zenith Artificial Appliances. Ltd., was founded in 1919 by Mr Nugent, who is an amputee from the last war. Mr Nugent had extensive training after the last war in orthopaedic centres in England, after being a member of a class at Roehampton organised by the British Government.
