Both these teams had previously contested the championship final. In which Metro was successful. Navy turned the tables on Saturday, to win by two clear goals. Metro provided an early sensation when it dashed upfield from the kick-off, for Hope Ede to test Pratt at point-blank range. However, Navy withstood the shock and, with Rutherford dropping back to assist Bell and Patterson, a strong defence was formed. Swan and Brown caused Putt, in the Meti'o goal, many anxious moments, and the latter had no chance with the drives that beat him—a penalty and an oblique shot, both from Brown. Webber was unlucky with several good crosses, tho Navy defence effectively smothering Hope Ede when he worked into dangerous positions. In tho early game, between Eastern Suburbs and Mount Albert Grammar Old Boys, even exchanges marked the play. Old Boys won by the only goal scored, Suburbs being unlucky not to at least divide the points when tho Old Boys' goalie fumbled two hard drives.
