LOCAL ELECTIONS
LABOUR CANDIDATES CITY COUNCIL SEATS The Auckland branch of the Labour Party will have 17 candidates for seats on the City Council at the local body elections on May 27. In the 1941 elections there was a full ticket for the 21 seats. The counting of delegates' votes on the preferential system tor the selection of candidates was commenced on Tuesday. The counting in respect of the City Council aspirants was completed vesterday afternoon, but the counting of the votes to decide candidates for other local bodies will not be completed before Monday afternoon. The selection of a nominee tor the Mayoralty has not yet been made As no finality was reached it was decided recently to call for fresh nominations and these will close next Friday In 1941 the Labour candidate was Mr. J. Sayegh. He did not stand for the council and with his defeat in the contest for the Mayoralty he «ased to be a member of the council alter serving for many years. This year he has been put forward as a Labour candi date for a seat on the council. At the last election Mrs. m. iu. Dreaver was the only Labour representative to obtain a seat on_ the council. She became the sole survivor ot the Labour minority of seven on the previous council. Mrs. Dreaver is again in eluded in the list of Labour aspirants. Following are the Labour candidates, in order of the voting, for the City Council seats:—P. Richardson, J- J. Sullivan, J. Sayegh, F. 0 oung, lE. Skinner, W. R. Taylor, Mrs. 1. freeman, J. 6.
