FILLING THE AIR CREWS
Behind the inspiring spectacle in and over Queen Street at noon today will lie a serious purpose. It is a call to youth to enlist for service in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, a most high and honourable calling. Those who hear it know that they will have a part in a sound tradition and shining record, a record that is not passive,' hut is every day being increased and adorned in action, 'a record which their endeavours may augment. The gunners have a . motto —"Übiquc, quo fas et gloria ducunt"—which could be used to sum up New Zealand's field of active service in the war. Her airmen are to be found everywhere—from the burning sands of the Middle East to the freezing fiords of Norway, from the grey wastes of the North Atlantic to steamy Pacific climes, over a dozen European countries or based on the sub-continent of India. Their duties are as wide and various as their stations; they man every type of plane. From their ranks have sprung individuals of exceptional gift and performance, but their name and fame is firmest founded on a high general average. New Zealand airmen are respected in all fields of war for their steadiness, dependability and devotion, for knowing their job and doing it under all circumstances, possible and impossible. There, can be no more compelling appeal, and none worthier, to youths on the threshold of manhood than to enlist under this noble tradition and help to maintain it. The air crews must be kept filled until victory.
