Herrick and Mrs. Marv, Herrick have arrived at Govenment House. \ ''H POSTAL OFFICER'S DEATH __ - INJURED IN ACCIDENT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday The death occurred at Dunedin this morning as a result of a motor accident of Mr. Thomas Paton, divisional director of the General Post Office, Wellington. Mr. Paton joined the service in 1901 and in 1916 left with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and served in Mesopotamia with a wireless troop. He returned in 1918, taking up duties in the telegraph engineer's office, Wanganui. Later he served in Masterton, Napier and Wellington, and in 1934 joined the head office staff, where for some years he held important positions on the communications side. In November.-1942, he was appointed divisional director. From the outbreak of the war he had played an important part in field tele-communi-cations, not only for the post office, but also in connection with the armed services. His death resulted from an acoident while engaged in the discharge of important official duties.

Mr. Paton was driving toward Lee Stream, near Milton, and on a betid just before reaching the stream the car hit a bank and turned on its side, pinning him undereantli. He was removed to hospital. The exact time of the accident is not known, but it is believed to hare occurred between 7 and 11 p.m. on Monday.

OBITUARY MRS. A. 0. JONES (0.C.) TE KUITI, Wednesday The death has occurred at the Te Kuiti Hospital of Mrs. Jane Ella Jones, aged 33, wife of the Rev. A. 0. Jones, of Te Kuiti. Born at Stanaway. Feilding, she was married 25 years later at Feilding. Besides her husband, Mrs. Jones is survived by three small boys. MR. G. L. MILLER (0.C.) XE KUITI, Wednesday The death has occurred of Mr. G. L. Miller, aged 52, of Te Kuiti. Born in England, he came out to New Zealand at the age of 19 and took up farming in the Taumarunui district., He served for four years during-tljej list) war and -j was awarded the Croijx ,| dehGu erre. I After the war he again took up farming. Thirteen years ago he joined the Native Department in Te Kuiti and afterward transferred to the Lands and Survey Department. He was vice-presi-dent "of the local R.S.A. and a jpast president. He was a past master of Lodge Plunket and was a member of the Druids Lodge. He is survived by his wife and two sons. MR. DAVID LUSBY A well-known resident of Takapuna, Mr. David Lusby, has died at the age of 77. Mr. Lusby was born in Lincolnshire and arrived in New Zealand in 1881. He carried on farming in the Te Aroha, Lichfield and Hamilton districts before retiring to live at Takapuna, where he was a member of the bowling club and the Methodist Church, jHe is survived by his wife and three children and there are 13 grandchildren. NEW SQUADRON-LEADER 1 (0.C.) GISBORNE, Wednesday Advice has been received that Flight-Lieutenant Geoffrey Sharp has been promoted to squadron-leader. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Sharp, of Gisborne. He left New Zealand early in 1941 and after several months service in Singapore went to Burma, and was recently transferred to India.

MINERS' FUNERAL (0.C.) HAMILTON, Wednesday The funeral of the late Messrs. 0. F. Edmonds and A. S. Rix, who were killed in a mining accident at the Wilton colliery. Glen Massey, 011 Monday, took place at Ngaruawahia today. A service was held in the Presbyterian church, which could not accommodate one-third of those present, who numbered several hundreds, including manv miners from the Huntly district. The mines in the district closed for the day as a mark of sympathy The service in the church was conducted by the Rev. R. M. Lament and the Rev. L. Bycroft. who also officiated at the graveside... Workmates acted as pall-bearers. Many beautiful wreaths were laid on the graves.
