Examine the cabbage bed and make up any blanks in the rows. The plants will benefit by hoeing whenever the soil is dry enough. Do not wait until there is a crop of weeds. The storing of potatoes will need attention and late crops of onions are better out of the soil as soon as growth has been completed. In the flower garden when remakins or planting borders a few bold clumm of lilies should be included. Such species as Henryii, Wilirnottiae, tigrimini, umhpllatum and the glorious regale will thrive in any ordinary garden soil. Where the soil is inclined to be heavy and not freely drained the bulbs should rest on a layer of sharp sand Rosemary cuttings will form roots in the open border at this season. Select short shoots from the tops of old plants, preferably with a heel attached. During the next" few weeks cuttings oi shrubs may be inserted. Choose halfripened shoots of the desired varieties Anemones and ranunculus should bo planted as well as daffodils and other spring-flowering bulbs. In the orchard young stone fruit trees will often make vigorous growth and to bring them into fruiting a check to the- roots. The earlier this is done the better chance of fruit next season. Remove the goi! around the tree three.feet from thi' trunk and sever the more vigorous roots.
