AUCKLAND EXCHANGE LIBERTY LOAN HIGHER Strong buying pressure, coupled with a scarcity of sellers, contributed to further firmness on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, and a parcel of the Third Liberty Loan 3 per cent changed hands at £9B 12s 6d, a rise of 7s 6d since last week, with buyers remaining in at the higher rate. Bank of New Zealand shares, in their first dealings in the new year, were steady at 435, more being wanted at that figure. E:, S. and A. Banks were firmer. DIVIDEND DECLARED The directors of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company recommend an unchanged dividend of sy a per cent, payable on February 21. Books close on January 3JL. In regard to the final dividend of 3s 6d a share already announced by the directors of the Union Bank of Australia, a Press Association message from Wellington states that the dividend is subject to British income tax of ll.GSld a share, making the net dividend 2s 6.319 d a share in English currency. Warrants to be drawn on Wellington will be payable at any of the bank's branches in Now Zealand at the buying rate of exchango for demand drafts on London at the date of the warrants, namely, February 21. TRADE IN SYDNEY The value of sales of the principal Sydney retail stores for October was 9.9 per cent lower than for October, 1942. Stocks wero valued at 9.1 per cent less than a year earlier. The figures aro given in the Monthly Summary of Business Statistics, issued by the Government Statistician, Mr. S. K.' Carver. The total value of taxable and non-taxable goods sold at wholesalo by registered wholesalers was £20,797,500 in October, compared with £22,065,300 in October, 1942. MARINE WAR RISK Advices of further reductions in marine war risk insurance rates were received by Auckland insurance offices yesterday. The amended schedulo is as fellows:—United Kingsdom, to or from Australia and New Zealand, via any route. 8 per cent (previously 0% per cent). Government war rates have been amended as follows:—'United Kingdom, to or from Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania, 4% per cent (5%); Australia and New Zealand, to or from India, not east of Cape Cormorin, but including Ceylon or Pesian Gulf, 5 per cent (6); east of Cape Cormorin, 6 per cent (7).
