SWIMMERS ARRIVE

DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS The New Zealand swimming championships for women intermediates and juniors will commence at the Olympic Pool, Newmarket, to-morrow morning at 10 a.m. All the visiting teams have arrived and have become acquainted with the pool, admiration being expressed at the facilities provided. To-day will be a busy one for officials and swimmers alike, the first function being an official welcome b.v the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board. Mr. A. S. Sutherland, at 10 a.m. to the special committee of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, and the managers and chaperones of the various teams. This function will be held at the board's office, and at the conclusion the special committee will hold ite first meeting. An official welcome to the City of Auckland will be extended by the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum. at the Town Hall at 2.15 p.m. to the championship competitors, the managers and the chaperones. The teams will then tro to Newmarket, where the deputy-mayor, Mr. R. E Newport, will extend an official welcome to the visitors to the borough. The march past ceremony will be practised at the Olympic Pool at 7.15 this evening, this being followed hy a meeting of the championship carnival officials. The first of tbo championship heats will be swum at 10 a.m. tomorrow, the finals of these events being decided in the evening, commencing at 7.45 p.m. Other first-class events will also bo swum this evening, while diving exhibitions will he given by the Newmarket Troupo. There will be similar programmes on Thursday and Saturday, Friday being a free day. At the conclusion of the carnival, the presentation of prizes will take place in the Newmarket Men's Club, Rialto Theatre Buildings. On Sunday the swimmers will be entertained at a picnic at Oneroa, but, should the weather be unfavourable a social gathering will be held in the Westhaven Cabarot.
