AWARDS TO NAVAL MEN SICILY OPERATIONS AUCKLANDER SINCE WOUNDED (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Sunday The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, has been advised by the Admiralty that the King has approved the following awards for good service in the attacks on Sicily:— Distinguished Service Cross. —remnorarv Lieutenant Isaac Kenneth Turner Chute, R.N.Z.N.V.R. _ Mentioned in Despatches.—Lieuten-ant-Commander Charles George Palmer, D.S.C., R.N.Z.N.V.R. j u ri Lieutenant Chute joined the Royal New Zealand Navy as an ordinary seaman under scheme 13 in April, 1941, and after undergoing training in the United Kingdom was promoted to commissioned rank in June. 1942. His wife is Mrs. P. K. Chute, of Lower Hutt. Lieutenant-Commander Palmer was born in April, 1910. He served in the R.N.Z.N.V.R. in peacetime, being mobilised for war service in 1939. He went overseas for service with the Roval Navy early in 1940 and ; was awarded the D.S.C. in Januarv, 1942. He was recently reported wounded during operations in the Mediterranean. His father is Commander C. H. T. j Palmer, retired. R.N.Z.N.V.R., Auckland.
