LEADERS ASSEMBLED IN CAIRO MR. CHURCHILL SEES SERVICE CHIEFS By 'telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received December 7, 10.15 p.m.) LONDON. December 7 It is now permissible to state that the third of a series of great international conferences is in progress, says the diplomatic correspondent of the Press Association. Mr. Churchill, President Roosevelt and President Inonu of Turkey are now meeting in North Africa. A later report says the conference is being held in Cairo. The reports of the meeting have not yet been officially confirmed in any Allied capital. It is also reported that since Mr. Churchill arrived back in Cairo from Persia he has conferred with General Sir Henry Maitland Wilson, Commander-in-Chief in the Middle East, Air Chief Marshal Sir William Sholto Douglas, Chief of the Middle East Air Command, and Major-General R. E.*Laycock, Chief of Combined Operations. Referring to the meeting with the Turkish leader the Press Association correspondent says it is reported that the British Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, accompanied Mr. Churchill, Mr. Roosevelt s personal representative, Mr. Harry Hopkins, accompanied President Roosevelt, and the Turkish Foreign Minister, M. Numan Menemencioglu, accompanied President Inonu. It is assumed that these important conversations follow up the conversations between Mr. Eden and M. Menemencioglu in Cairo at the beginning of November. The German news agency says the Russian envoy to Ankara accompanied President Inonu, whose delegation included the Prime Minister of Turkey, M. Saracoglu, and Marshal Chakmak, Chief of the Turkish General Staff. " It is clear from the tenor of reports circulating'in Europe," says the political writer of the Daily Mail, " that Turkey is under pressure from the Allies to declare herself something more than a co-belligerent in their favour."
