RUMOURS DENIED

RATIONING OF SHOES "Persistent rumours have been circulating during the past few weeks regarding a new system of rationing shoes on a pair basis," says a statement issued by the Auckland Drapers and Allied Retailors' Association. "Stores have been inundated with customers wanting to purchase extra pairs. "The local office of the rationing controller has advised that no word has been received that there is any intention to alter the present system of shoe rationing," the statement continues. "It is to be regretted that rumours such as these are spread at a time when the efforts of tne trade are extended to provide sufficient footwear, and to ensure its equitable distribution."
