MURDER CHARGE
DEATH OF NEGRO AMERICAN ARRESTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Friday Arrested by Detective-Sergeant W. Tricklebank and two detectives about seven o'clock this morning, Reginald Delone Surles, aged 25, a United States merchant seaman, was charged in the Magistrate's Court with murdering Robert Lane, and on the application of the police he was remanded till tomorrow Detective-Sergeant J. Thompson said the alleged murder was committed oil board a ship in port in the early hours of this morning. It might be necessary to make application to the Court for a special hearing of the evidence of some of the witnesses. Lane was an American negro merchant seaman, it is understood he is alleged to have been stabbed with a knife.
