OVERSEAS WEDDINGS RUSHTON—EVANS The Anglo-American church at Beirut 'Syria, was the scene of a wedding of New* Zeaiand interest on July cs, when Sister Margaret Lois Evans, ot the English Territorial Auxiliary Isursing Service in the Middle East, eldest daughter of Mrs. and the ate Mr. E. J Evans, of Treorchy, Wales. was niarried to Captain George Rushton, New Zealand Engineers, eldest son 01 Mr. and Mrs. G. Rushton, 63 Kelvin Road, Remnera, Auckland: Captain J . Fereday, chaplain of the j\fiddle East forces performed the ceremony. The' bride, who was given away by Major Bruce H alley, N.Z.E., wore a frock of soft blue crepe and a small white toque with a long tassel. Her bouquet was of red roses. Ihe bridesmaid, Sister Elsie Drake, also of INe\\ Zealand, wore her white dress uniform and carried a bouquet of the same lovely roses. The best man was Captain G. Armstrong, group adjutant: J lie reception after the ceremony was held at the Hotel Normandie, Beirut, where the many New Zealand guests included Lieutenant-Colonel L. Rudd. Licmiten-ant-Co I oil el Hansen, Messrs. G. and IS. Nairn, and army, navy, air force and railway group officers. The two-tiered wedding cake was sent from New Zealand by the bridegroom's mother.

COLLIE—TORBET Westminster United Church, Saskatoon, Canada, was beautifully decorated for the wedding of Miss Jean Alburty Torbet, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Torbet, of Saskatoon. Canada, to Flight-Sergeant Frank Archie Collie, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Collie, of Manurewa, Auckland. 'I he Rev. A. B. Moore officiated and Mrs. Rex Scott was at the organ. The bride was given away by her father. Her wedding gown was of white organza with a fitted bodice and long lily point sleeves, and her fingertip veil was held 111 place by a coronet of orange-blossom. She carried a bouquet of white gladioli and sweetpeas. Hei sister, Miss Margaret lorbet, was bridesmaid and wore a frock of heavenblue sheer relieved by a shoulder spray of deep pink roses and matched by a Juliet cap. The best man was Sergeant Forden Hildreth, R.N.Z.A.F. The reception after the ceremony was held at the home of the bride's parents. The bridal couple left later for Gaspe. Quebec, where the bridegroom is stationed with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

BRITTAIN—BELSHAW News has been received of the wedding in Canada of Sergeant-Pilot C. Brittain, R.N.Z.A.F., third son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Brittain, of Archibald Koad, Glen Eden, Auckland, his bride being Miss Elaine Grace Belshaw, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Belshaw, of Crossfield, Alberta, Canada. The ceremony took place at Hillhurst United Church, Crossfield, the Rev. J. V. How •ev officiating. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a pale blue suit with a shoulder spray of roses and lily of thf valley, and navy accessories. The bridesmaid, Miss June Patmore, wore a blue crepe frock with a corsage of pink carnations. The bride's brother, Mr. Kenneth Belshaw, was best man. After the ceremony the guests were entertained at a dinner party held in the Brentwood Room of the Empress Hotel. Sergeant Brittain left a few days later to rejoin his unit at Halifax prior to going overseas.

PLUNKET SOCIETY A meeting at Point Chevalier to consider the formation of a sub-committee of the Auckland Plunkef Society in that district was addressed by Mrs. T. Clifton Webb, president of the Auckland branch of the society, and by the charge nurse, Miss H. Chapman. A provisional committee was then set up to further the proposal. This committee will report to a meeting which is to be held in March, when it is hoped that a permanent committee will be established. The following members were elected to the provisional committee: — Mesdames L. McMillan (chairman), M. C. Gillott, E. Tyler, L. D. Carr, J. S. Gordon, L. W. Hedge.

LEAGUE'S FINAL AT HOME The Overseas League's afternoon functions for 194.3 concluded yesterday when Miss Margaret D. Young, who is at present on furlough from Beswada. Deccnn. gave an interesting address in rhe league rooms on "The Education of Girls in Wartime India." These Friday functions during the year have been delightfully varied, ranging from musical to informal afternoons arranged by the programme convener, Mrs. M. Prater, or bridge parties arranged by Mrs. H. Schmidt. Members have also met on Monday afternoons throughout the year to work for the Red Cross Emergency Group.
