AUCKLAND EXCHANGE SCARCITY OF SELLERS Firm values and a scarcity of sellers marked the beginning of a fresh week on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday and turnover suffered in consequence. Shortage of supplies was especially noticeable in Government issues, and to secure a parcel of the Third Liberty Loan ;3 per cents a buyer moved up to £99. Gains recorded in Dominion industrials were for Peters Ice, 2s higher since May; Silknit, 2s 6d up since July; and Whakatane Paper Mills preference, which changed hands at 235, compared with 10s 6d a year ago. Woolworths' shares were firmer.

GRAIN AND PRODUCE The following is the official wholesale market report of the Auckland Grain, Seed and Produce Merchants' Association: —- Wheat,—Merchants are holding fair stocks, which are. selling through store at 7s 4d to 7s 6d a bushel. Maize.—Small slocks are held, with whole maize selling at 7s lOd to Ss Id a bushel and kibbled at 8s Id to Ss 4d. Lack of shipping space is making the stock position more 'difficult. Oats.—B Cartons are selling slowly through store at 5s Sd to 5s lid a bushel. The market in the South Island is very firm. Chaff. —The southern market is firm, although there has as yet been no alteration in local prices, which are £l3 to £l4 a ton through store. Barley.—This line is selling steadily at 5s 3d to 5s 6d a bushel for undipped and 6a to (is 5d for clipped. Rarleymeal.—There is a steady Inquiry, with Australian selling through store at £ll 10s to £l2 5s a lon. There are only limited stocks available. Stockmeal, —Through store prices are £ll 2s 3d to £ll 17s Od a ton, with ample supplies on hand. NATIONAL INSURANCE (0.C.) DUNEDIN, Monday Speaking at the annual meeting of the National Insurance Company to-day the chairman of directors, Mr. G. 11. Ritchie, said that premium income for the year was larger by C 15,775 than that for the previous year. Losses generally were higher, but were not out of proportion to the increase in premiums. Taxation was still mounting and had now reached a stage where for every £1 distributed to shareholders in dividends 12 was required to meet the demands of Ihe New Zealand and other Governments. IMPORTS OF BICYCLES Advice has heen received from the Customs Department that eighth period licences will be granted for the importation of bicycles from the United Kingdom to the extent of 100 per -cent of the value of licences granted for imports of similar goods from that source in 1913. PUBLIC TRUST BUSINESS Estates to the value of C 191,071 were accepted for administration by the Public Trustee during October. Grants of administration made by the Court in favour of the Public Trustee numbered 219. Durins the month 592 new wills appointing the Public Trustee executor were prepared, and 254 existing wills were revised to provide for chancres desired by testators.
