OHINEMUEI MEETING FORM OF CUP RUNNERS | BY ARCHER £so fewer than three races had to lie run in divisions at the Ohinemuri f Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting at , l'aeroa on Saturday and that made the t programme unusually long with the re- * suit that there was delay in running, the last event starting about an hour x late. The course at Paeroa is not very \ wide in some parts and therefore not 1 particularly suitable for large fields, so * that there may again be several divis- ] ions at the Bay of Plenty Racing Club's J annual meeting, which is to oe held there next Saturday. It was unfortunate that the Ohinemuri Cup had to be divided, yet two good contests were the outcome. Actually there were 18 ( starters, two above the safety-limit ai the ] mile and a-quarter post, and strangely enough ; llic three horses who were withdrawn all j came out of the first division, in which there were eight runners, compared with 10 in the ; second. The first division was run two-fifths of a second faster than the second, Foxola , putting up a fine performance to win by a ; nose from Regal" Fox in '-2-3 3-5. In the second division Volifox scored decisively by two lengths. Tho victory of Foxola in Uio first division proved very popular. She is one of the most consistent liorses racing and seldom runs a bad race. Moreover, she has performed well at distances from six furlongs up to two miles this season and is very versatile. Foxola is in fine form but she is not in the Tauranga Cup next Saturday, when the stable has Te Kawiti and Merry May engaged. Te Kawiti ran well for fourth in the second division of the Ohinemuri Cup and possibly he may do a little better at his next attempt. Regal Fox and Volifox are both in the Tauranga Cup and both may bo well fancied. Although he has had a fair amount of racing this season, Regal Fox probably was in need of a rousing gallop when narrowly beaten last Saturday. Indications- are that ho is close (o his best form. Volil'ox has never been better than she is at present, X. Cunningham having her at the peak of her form, awl she will only require to reproduce last week's performance lo be prominent if produced again next Saturday. Foxsen was responsible for a creditable performance in finishing third in the first division of the Ohinemuri Cup and Clinch put in good work at the end to finish fourth. Clinch has disappointed since winning the Waikato Cup at Te Rapa in November, but he may be about to .sta,ge a return to form. As a result, of his recent defeats, ho is now in a nice position in the weights. Tellsom was responsible for most of the pacemaking in the first division of the Ohinemuri Cup, but ho weakened in the straight and finished fifth. It is probable that he would be more at home over a shorter journey than a mile and a-quarter, but if rain were to come to ease the ground he might do better than he did last week. In the past he has shown a distinct liking for soft going. Without being able to seriously trouble Volifox, Beau Leon finished solidly for second in tho second division of the Ohinemuri Cup. Slight improvement would make Beau Leon difficult to beat in the Tauranga Cup, although he would appeal more over a longer journey and on a larger course. ACCEPTOR OMITTED GREAT DRAW PENALISED Advice has been received from the secretary that Great Draw was omitted from the list of acceptors for the Jack Tanner Memorial Handicap, which is to be run at the Bay of Plenty Racing Club's annual meeting at Paeroa on Saturday. As a result of her win in the second division of the Karangahake Handicap at Paeroa last Saturday, Great Draw has incurred a rehandicap of 10lb, which will make her weight fi •">
