Hemingway, chairman of the Wanganui Education Board, returned south last night after attending the funeral of his brother. Mr. W. H. Hemingway. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Armed Forces and War Co-ordina-tion, and the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, Minister of Education, arrived from Wellington on Saturday. Bishop Liston, Monsignori W. J. Ormond, J. Cahill and H. F. Holhrook and Dr. L. T. Buxton have left far Dunedin to attend the consecration ceremony of the Rt. Rev. Dr. R, O'Neill as co-adjutor bishop of the diocese. THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sunday The Governor-General. Sir Cyril Newall, and Lady Newall will leave Wellington on Monday for Rotorua, where he will take part in the centennial celebrations. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington on Monday, March 29. . OBITUARY MR. J. WOOLLER The death has occurred of Mr. Joseph Wooller, aged 77, who. spent a lite-" time in the teaching profession under ' the Auckland Education Board. Bora 1 in Auckland, he completed his education at the university, where he won ' the Passnet gold medal for oratory, r v ) He was headmaster of several school's,' ) including Newton West, from which he . , retired in 1929. Mr. Wooller was cap-' ■ tain of the Auckland University Rugby : football team, and he also played for Ponsonbv and represented Auckland on several occasions. In later yea rs he was a keen bowler, being r president and 3 singles champion of the Remuera Club 5 for some years. Mr. Wooller was preai--1 dent of the Auckland Headmasters' As--1 sociation for a period and took a pro- - minenfc part in the Masonic order. H# r r i s survived by his wife and one son. 3 MR. F. J. MARSHALL I (0.C.) MORRINSVILLE, Saturday I The death occurred this week at Mur--1 ray's Bay, Auckland, of Mr. Francis Joseph Marshall, a pioneer of the Mor--2 rinsville district, and first Mayor, of ? the borough. Mr. Marshall was bora in 1 Oxfordshire, England, in 1860, and :i came to New Zealand at the age of 22 i in the ship Brenhilda in charge of a I consignment of stock which included a - batch for Messrs. T. and S. Morrin, of ? Morrinsville. After transporting stock s to San Francisco for the New Zealand e Stud Company, Mr. Marshal] was apr pointed by Messrs. Morrin Brothers to take control of the sheep and cattle ~ on the Lockerbie Estate, now the site r of Morrinsville. e In 18S7 Mr. Marshall acquired a e butchery business, and under his management it developed into .one of the + best of its kind in the Waikato. In 1888 he married Miss Jane Turnbull, of 0 Kiwitalii. a daughter of Mr. Jt>hn Turn-' bull, the first white settler to arrive e in Morrinsville. From 1908 to 1918 Mr. >t Marshal! was a member of the Morrinsville Town Board, and jh 1921 lie was elected unopposed first Mayor of the. newly-created borough. He retired in i- 1923. He wa.s for five years president of the Morrinsville Agricultural and Pastoral Association, of which he w.ss a foundation member. Mr. Marshall was "" one of the best-known studmasters and ' s racing men in the North Island a_ few n decades ago. He is survived by his ir wife.

FATHER A. L. BURGER (P.A.) WELLINGTON,, Sunday The death occurred to-day at Lewisham Hospital, Wellington, of Father A. L. Burger, S.M., M.A. He was bora at Kumara 58 years ago arid was educated at St. Patrick's College, Wellington, and at Greenmeadows. He was engaged in pastoral work at Waimate and for many years was associated with St. Bede's" College. Christchurch, where he was rector from 1930 to 1936. He was also for a time in charge of j the Marist College at Mittagong. New South Wales, and later was a member of the staff of St.. Patrick's College,' Silverstream. He was the delegate front the Marist Fathers to the General Chapter in Rome in 1935. ORDINATION SERVICE An ordination service was conducted in St. Mary's Cathedral yesterday morning. The Bishop of Auckland, the lit. Rev. W. J. Simkin, officiated and the sermon was preached by the Rev. 11. F. Geddes, vicar of Clevedon. There were two candidates for ordination to the priesthood, the Rev. Francis le Champion Allen, assistant curate at. St. Aidan's, Remuera, and the Rev. Hale Alt Nibloek, assistant curate at Taka* puna. LATE MR. HEMINGWAY The funeral of Mr. W. H, Hemingway took place on Saturday. A service was conducted at his home, Hiriri Avenue, Remuera, by Canon R- 1 J - Connolly, of St. Aidan's Church, before, the cortege left for the Waikumete Crematorium, where a shorter ceremony „ was held. A large number of wreaths were sent by organisations and firms with which Mr. Hemingway was connected, and many personal and business friends were present. NATIONAL SAVING'S National war savings receipts in the Auckland metropolitan area totalled £9550 last week. The figure for the previous week was £B2/5. " Both totals are better than tor some time, but still -fall short of the . allotted quota of £15.000." said Mr. F. E. Sutherland, secretary of the Auckland committee, on Saturday. Ine National War Savings Movement was at present concentrating on exhorting the public to save and plan for post- , war living.
