Shirtcliffe graduate bursary: R. L. C. Pilgrim (Canterbury). DEATH IN ENGLAND CAPTAIN J, GAGE WILLIAMS Cabled advice has been received of the death of Captain John Gage Wil-/ liams at Plymouth. England, '■■ Hi the result of a motor-car accident. At the time of his death he was on the staff-of General Lord Fortesque. Captain Gage Williams served in the. last war, and came to New Zealand in 1917 as aide-de-camp to Lord Liverpool, then Gov-ernor-General. He . relinquished this position to take up farming in the Wairarapa, and in 1919 married Misa Nevil Thorne George, daughter ,of the late Mr. Seymour Thorne George, of Auckland. Captain Gage _ Williams was well known in racing circles in New Zealand. He was judge to several racing cluha, and later was in charge of horses raced by Mr. E. L. Riddiford. Some years ago he returned to England, and took up farming in Cornwall, the county in which he was born and spent his early ; life. He is* survived by his wife, one daughter and one son, who is a prisoner of war in Italy.
101ST BIRTHDAY RESIDENT OF TAURANGA Active and very alert, Mrs. Isabella Bain Munro, of Sixth Avenue, Tauranga, celebrated her 101st birthday yesterday. She was born at Lossiamouth, Scotland, and after her marriage to the late Mr. William Munro, a ship's officer, she lived in Scotland and London for some years before coming to New Zealand in 1903. Mr. Munro -established a shipwright business in Auckland, and they lived at Ponsonby and Onehunga. After Mr. Munro retired they moved to Lake Rotoiti. Mrs. Munro still does a certain amount of housework in the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Munro, of Taurangi. Mr. Munro died 27 years ago. OBITUARY MRS. SARAH BARY % (0.c.) HAMILTON, Friday The death has-occurred in Hamilton of Mrs. Sarah Bary, a pioneer of Marlborough, aged 97 years. Mrs. Bary was born in Bradford, England, and cams to New Zealand at the age of 12. baa married Mr. Guetav Bary, who died - years ago, and they lived in Manborough. Last October, Mrs. Bary_mad9 her first flight in an aeroplane. She U survived by five sons and five daughters. There are 33 grandchildren, 44 greatgrandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. ARMY EDUCATION A conference of education from all units in the Northern Military District was held oyer the pa*, two davs at the Northern Milit< District School of Instruction. It opened bv the officer commanding district, "Major-General P. H. 13 c ' D.5.0., and the unit officers had full scheme and its administration • plained to them by Major \v. L- A'®** ander, assistant-director or tie - vice for the district. As a result 0 conference it is expected that the cational officers will return to t . units with complete understanding their task and of the scheme, wlnch s expected to be in full operation in tw next few weeks.
