Motor-car Headlights Compiamts that motorists are show* ing an increasing disregard for the headlights restriction regulations in the outer suburbs and on main highways are being made by other road users. It is alleged that some motorists flagrantly break the regulations by using both lights at full power, while others drive to within a short distance of approaching traffic before dimming one headlamp. Most- of the alleged offenders are said to be drivers of private cars. Siege of Parihaka The 61st anniversary of the arrest of the Maori prophet Te Whiti at parihaka is Taranaki after a bloodless siege lasting five days occurs, to-day. Te Whiti had allowed Parihaka to become a sort of refuge for dissatisfied and rebellious Maoris from all over New Zealand. A band of 1300 men. consisting of members of the New Zealand Volunteer i Force and the Armed Constabulary, marched oa the Tillage at the end of October, 18S1. On the "morning of November 5, Te Whiti was arrested without resistance, and his colleague chief Tohu surrendered. Water for North Shore An estimate that the leaks in the recently-laid pipeline across the upper harbour could be mended in about three days was driven yesterday by the city waterworks engineer, Mr A. D. Mead, who said that only about a week more would be required for connecting up and other work before the city supply to Deyonport and Takapuna was turned on. Mr. Mead added that the welding of flanges had been strained at three points. Two of the leaks were in shallow water at low tide and could' be dealt with by the council's workmen.
