Workers Called to Forces. —Many classes of British workers hitherto on the reserved list are now Icing called up for the forces, says the special correspondent of the Press Association. Colonials' Welfare, —Miss Eleanor ORathbone, .NT.P., has accepted an invitation from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Viscount Cranhorne, to become a member of the advisory committee on the welfare of colonial people in Britain. Low Heels Decreed.—High heels will be eliminated in the United States tor the duration of the war by a Government decree. Shoe manufacturers at the national shoe fair in Chicago are substituting less glamourised, but more practical, low-heeled Oxfords. There aiv only to be six different colours in future. Übiquitous Australians. —The activities of the Royal Australian Air Force are practically world-wide. Now extended to Russia, it also is operating in the Pacific and co-operating with the Allied air forces in all parts of the "United Kingdom, Northern Ireland, the Middle East, Malta, Gibraltar, Aden. Irak, India and West Africa. News Restriction Withdrawn.—The Government of India has withdrawn the order of August 8 restricting publication of news about Congress disturbances from Bengal. Bombay, Punjab, the Centra] Provinces, the United Provinces and Orissa, says a message from New Delhi. The order already had been withdrawn in other provinces.
