NEW ZEAI.ANDERS' WORK MEDITERRANEAN FIGHTING The Auckland Fleet Air Arm pilot mentioned in yesterday's cabled news of fighting in the Mediterranean is SubLieutenant Douglas Stanley Hill, son of Mr. and Airs. W. S. Hill, of 58 Arney Crescent, Remuera.

Sub-Lieutenant Hill, who is 22, was educated at the Otahuhu High School and King's College. After leaving school lie went to sea, working in the crew of the Margaret W. in the coastal trade. Shortly before the war he worked his passage to England, returning about three weeks before the outbreak of war. He then joined the Fleet Air Arm and left for Great Britain in, August, 1940. In peacetime he was a keen yachtsman, sailing his own boat. Sub-Lieutenant F. A. J. Pennington, another of the Fleet Air Arm pilots mentioned for their part in the defence of the recent Malta convoy, is an old boy of Wellington College, where he was runner-up in the senior swimming championship in 19132. Later, lie joined the Wellington Swimming Club, and established new Wellington records for the 220 yds., 440 yds. and 880 yd,?. and the one mile, these records still standing. He left New Zealand in July, 1940. to join the Fleet Air Arm. He is aged 26, and is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Pennington, of Wellington.
