Sir, —Beautiful Maungakiekie, which has been the source of pride and pleasure to thousands of Auckianders and a source of enjoyment to so many visitors, both from other parts of N'ew Zealand and overseas, is apparently to be sacrificed. What have the trustees clone to prepare the property for the j enjoyment of the people r* Certainly a road has been put through and trees {planted, but the Maungakickie Golf | Club has developed the portion it ocl cupies at its own cost as a thing of I beauty. Thousands of Auckianders who ! merely view the property gather en- | joyment from it. If the trustees conI sider that further development should j take place for the benefit of the public, ; they surely have hundreds of acres to work on before sacrificing the golf links. Compare the property as it is toj day with Glendowic, and you will have ; a picture of the Maungakickie of the future —beauty turned to drabness. | Surely the spirit of the late Sir John I Logan Campbell's gift to the public : could he carried out to a far greater extent by maintaining the beautiful Maungakiekie golf links as they are today than by turning the area over to grazing; besides which, the area is at present a substantial source of revenue i which could be devoted toward the deI vclopment. of other portions of the park.
