Girls and Boys
DEAR BOYS AND GIRLS,— SUCH fat end attractive scrapbooks are coming in for the competition. You are all doing splendidly and even some generoushearted grown-ups who, alas, are not quite young enough to enter for the contest, hove very kindly sent along pictures or children's books. For these we are very grateful and 1 feel sure the wee folk in hospital will just love them. And now the golden hours of holidays will soon be over and back to school you'll all be trooping. It was fun though, to be able to stay at home for a while and to spend joyous moments in your favourite garden corner or curled up with an exciting book, wasn't it? Time just to do what you like and no lessons to think about! Yes, holidays are the greatest of fun, but so is school. And 1 can see you all eager to be back to the classrooms with light hearts and a crowded store of holiday adventures to relate to your chums. . . Good Boy, Bobby! Dear Anne Shirley,—l worked during my holidays and earned enough money to purchase a defence bond, lhis is the very first money 1 have ever earned by working, and my teacher and everyone else seemed to think it fine that I should spend the money this way. We youngsters who cannot in any other way help our country can do it this way. Bv investing all our available money in bonds and stamps for defence. I am going to use all my prize money from the clubs this way, too. Best wishes to you, Anne Shirley, and all New Zealand jphildren. Sincerely, Bobby Cruse, U.S.A. Bubbles 0, strange small worlds akin to dreams, Fantastic and unreal; You hold a million fairy lights, Yet if 1 dared to feel, My softest touch would break the spell, And all that was before, Like every dream that I have knovra, Would break and be no more. —Original, by Susie Jurd (19), D.M.B.G
