BOYS MISSING
FEABS FOB SAFETY HARBOUR TRIP IN CANOE FRUITLESS SEARCH MADE The failure of two Devonport boys to return from a sailing trip on the Auckland Harbour yesterday has created fears for their safety. They are: Harold James Smith, aged 13, of 1 Buchanan Street, Devonport, and George Mason, aged 13, of Queen's Parade, Devonport. The boys left Devonport at noon in a 12ft. canvas kayak-type canoe, painted blue and white, and when hailed near that wharf about 2 p.m. they said they were going to Shoal Bay, between Bayswater and Northcote. The last report of the lads came from a man who informed the police that he had seen a canoe off Kauri Point, headed toward Devonport, about 6.15 p.m. It was late in the afternoon when the matter was reported to the police, and a launch from the naval base set out in search. When it returned at a late hour it had found no trace of the boys. A private launch immediately continued the search with a constable on board, and it had not reported at a late hour.
