ONLY TWO DOCTORS
POSITION AT TAKAPOTA SERVING EIGHT THOUSAND The fact that there were at present only two doctors to attend to a population of over 8000 in the borough, was mentioned at last night's meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council when a letter was received from the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, refusing the council s request that a resident practitioner of the borough at present in camp be allowed to return to his practice. The Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, said that in cases of less seriorts injuries or illnesses, appointments had to be made soma weeks ahead. It Was agreed that it was impossible for one man to attend to 4000 patients, a point which the Government itself recognised in the Social Security regulations. Although it could have no immediate effect on the situation, Mr. C. H. XL, Wills moved that the Minister be asked to increase the number of medi- s cal students at Oiago University, and also to establish as soon as possible a medical school in Auckland. It was decided, also, to ask other local bodies in the district to support the council's attitude.
