REGISTRATION IN PROGRESS THREE CLASSES CONCERNED Over 2000 registrations, out of an anticipated total of 10,000 to b e made in Auckland under the National Service Emergency Regulations, had been received up to yesterday at the Auckland Placement Office. Registrations by persons now called upon are required to be completed by to-morrow. Three classes of persons are required to register. They are: All males between the ages of 46 and 50, inclusive, irrespective of the work on which they are engaged; all women, married or single, who have attained 20 years but are not yet 22; all men between 18 and 70 inclusive who in the last 15 years have worked for one year in the building, engineering or allied trades. The regulations apply to those in the various classes whether they are in an essential industry or not. For purposes of registration, the Auckland district extends from Wellsford to Pokeno and Waiuku. The same registration form is used by/ the various classes now required to register, and as a result sorting and classifying of forms has become a major task* for a special staff at the Placement Office.

25,000 GIRLS .TO REGISTER SELECTION FOR WAR WORK (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Monday Between 24,000 and 26,000 girls of 20 and 21 will be affected by registration with the National Service Department, which is due for completion on Wednesday. Some girls are reported to be trying to enter the Government service to avoid being called up for essential war work, but this will not shelter them. Every case will be considered on its merits and the girls will not be taken from useful work whether in the Government service or not. The question of the registration of girls of other ages is not likely to be considered until the present group is dealt with.
